Food security and sustainability are keys to a better future. Sustainable lifestyles and growing health-enhancing food were themes for several of the speakers at ESTC 2023 in Spokane. Paul Wheaton, appropriately, wears the type of coveralls worn by down-to-earth workers on the land. He educates people who come to his workshops in Montana to learn about permaculture.
I bought Wheaton’s book Building a Better World in your Backyard Instead of Being Angry at Bad Guys. As is obvious from the title, his irreverent sense of humor makes it a pleasure to learn the how-to of “luxuriant environmentalism.”
Jim Gale, based in Florida, and his team are creating a business network connecting permaculture designers and installers to stewards—growers of food forests.
